in 4th grade, my teacher read 2 of his books to us, Silverwing and Sunwing, the first 2 books in a triliogy. the triliogy wasn't ocmpleted yet, so she just read us those. they were really really good, i loved them! then, when i was in 6th grade, someone told me that Firewing was coming out, the last one in the triliogy....well since then i'd pretty much forgotten about them, but i decided to pick up the first 2 again and read them so i did and i remembered how aesome they were, so i read the third one and they're all amazing...
here's some plot lines:
Silverwing ~ Shade, a runt Silverwing bat, is really mischevious... he's always getting in trouble because he's curious. He decides to get a glimpse of the sun-- something forbidden to bats. the owls find out and have Tree Haven, the colony's nursery roost burned down. they have to start migration early. Since Shade is a runt, he is much weaker than the rest of the colony and is swept away in the wind during a huge storm. He meets a Brightwing bat named Marina and together they try to find their way to Hibernaculum, the place where the silverwing colony hibernates for the winter. On the way, they meet 2 cannibal bats, Goth and Throbb, and they have to get away from them and get to Hibernaculum before Goth and Throbb do and eat their colony. They also try to find the secret of the bands that some of the bats have on their forearms, given to them by Humans. they believe it's part of Nocturna's Promise. Nocturna is the Goddess of the Night Sky. The Promise is the promise that ensures that the bats will one day overtake the owls and be able to fly in the sunlight once more. Shade finds out that his father also had a band and mysteriously dissappeared. they think he died, widowing Ariel, Shade's mother.
Sunwing ~ Shade is again trying to solve the mystery of the metal bands. they find Paradise, or Human's imitation of it,... they're put in an artifical jungle where they are free of everything...including owls! Shade is restless and he wants to get out. He tries to escape and only ends up getting a metal disc sewn to his belly and a siren put in his ear. He is flown in an airplane along with a lot of other bats to the southern jungles, where Goth and Throbb, the cannibal bats were from! The siren starts singing in Shade's ear and he has an impulse to fly towards a building, but stops himself. Why should he? Then he sees why he shouldnt: the bats that touch the building are bursting into flame! they're not just metal discs sewn to them...they're bombs! so in the middle of the jungle, where Goth and his Empire (Goth is King of the Vampyrum Spectrum) are trying to kill the sun and make eternal night, Shade finds out his father is alive! Cassiel is alive! He must find Cassiel, stop the Vampire bats from creating eternal night, and keep everyone from exploding on the spot.
Firewing ~ A year later than the other books, the main character is Gryffin, Shade's son. Gryffin is also a trouble causing bat pup, but he does it in fright, not in curiosity. when he tries to do something brave, he ends up screwing up and killing one of the other newborns! in shame, he burrows into the ground to hide, and finds a passage to the underworld. he is sucked down there and \has to get back before one of the dead bats steal his life away from him!
Okay, maybe they sound a bit cheesey, but they're nooooot, they're so good. lol.
well anways, i read these books and looked for more books by the author. guess what book.
AIRBORN!
yep, it's written by the same dude!
synopsis:

I went to the libaray, they only had 1 more... Peg and the Whale....it turned out to be a child's picture book, but whatever. I read it anyways. HAH!
it's about a little girl named Peg and she goes sailing and meets a whale. LMAO there's also another book about Peg, it's called Peg and the Yeti lol I like Yetis....
sooo i went on the internet and searched for his books. he's written a lot more, but most of them are out of print...I bought a used copy of Dead Water Zone and read it last weekend it's really good!
synopsis:
Paul, a 16 year old body builder gets a call from his younger brother, Sam. Sam is physicially challenged, he's very weak and has a bad medical condition that says he might die before he turns 28. Sam is a genious. Sam called Paul to tell him that he is in Watertown, a town near where Paul and Sam live. Sam says he found something inetersting about the water they have there....water called Dead Water. its polluted water your not supposed to drink. Sam found out something he thinks no one knows.... but when Paul goes to check it out, Sam's not there, just a mysterious girl named Monica. He sets out on a quest to find the secret of the dead water and to find his brother, while evading an evil person named Cityweb, who wants to test the dead water on people, illegally.
I found out he also has written an adult book (not that kind of "Adult" book, get your minds out of the gutter!!) called "The Devil's Cure" and it's about someone with a medical condition that makes them have an increased amount of white bllood cells. someone needs a blood transfusion and it's not for a good cause.
That's all i can tell you, i ddint read the book, but that's pretty much what it sounded like. lol.
he has another book that i've been trying to get my hands on for a while....but i think that one is out of print, too, like Dead Water Zone so i'll have to get it 2nd hand. it's called The Live-Forever Machine and I think it sounds cool.
There's also 2 more books I want of his........ lmao listen to the names: Emma's Emu and Barnes and the Brains. Emma's Emu is about a girl who gets and Emu for her birthday. LMAO I WANT AN EMU! hehehe and then I don't know what Barnes and the Brains is about. but they'reboth childrens books but i don't care. haha.
and then, of COURSE, I want Skybreaker....the sequel to Airborn....SQUEE i'm soooo excited! lol
the moral of this story is..........
